Faustino A. Sirven, MD Scholarship

The Florida International University Herbert Wertheim College of Medicine (HWCOM) Scholarship Program is pleased to offer the Faustino A. Sirven, MD Scholarship Award. Dr. Faustino A. Sirven was a man who devoted his life to family and medicine. Coming from 5 generations of physicians that helped develop medical education in Cuba, he began his medical career in Cuba as a general surgeon for 36 years and did oncology surgery for 15 years. One of his greatest accomplishments was moving to the U.S. at the age of 64, passing his boards, and being able to practice medicine in a new country. In the later part of his career, he taught the family practice residency program at the University of Miami. On his off time, Dr. Sirven enjoyed watching and playing sports such as tennis, basketball and swimming. He was a man who valued responsibility, working, honesty, and family. Besides his medical accomplishments, Dr. Sirven was most admired by his ability to make anyone laugh and feel comfortable. His positive attitude flowed through his veins and radiated through his smile. If Dr. Sirven were here right now he would take great pleasure in being part of helping a student fulfill their dream of practicing medicine. The Dr. Faustino A. Sirven scholarship has been set in place to honor Dr. Sirven’s life and passion for medicine by helping continue medical education for the next generation of doctors. The purpose of this scholarship award is to support a current student with their cost of attendance while attending HWCOM.
