Genomic Scholarship (FIU-CGR)
This program will provide advanced undergraduate and master students with the essential skills and research experience in genomic research. The program will provide a $2000 paid scholarship for the 2025-2026 academic year, provide training to the students, match each student with a genomic research team so the student can obtain genomic research experience, and provide mentoring on genomic research and applying for doctoral programs in genomic research. The student will be expected to commit approximately 8 hours a week to genomic research/research training. The experience will culminate in a presentation at the end of the academic year to FIU-CGR faculty and on Stempel Research Day of the winter following their research experience.
Minimum eligibility criteria for applicants
• Be at least an incoming junior or a master student for the fall of 2025.
• Motivated to work on a genomic research project with a faculty member.
• Have a minimum undergraduate/graduate GPA of 3.0.
Preferred criteria
• Completed coursework in molecular biology or genetics with at least a B grade in each course.
• Have programming experience in R, Python, or other programing language.
Once accepted into the program, ongoing eligibility criteria include:
• Maintain FIU enrollment status throughout the term of the scholarship.
• Work closely with the assigned faculty member on the pre-determined research project
• Maintain regular communication with the assigned faculty member who monitors the student’s progress in the project.
• Have satisfactory evaluation on mid-year progress report
Applications will be due on May 16th. Faculty recommendation letter will be due by May 30th. Candidates will be invited for interviews to be completed by June 27th. Applicants will be notified on June 30th. Students will receive $1000 at the end of the fall semester, and $1000 at the end of the second semester. Students will give an oral presentation about project at the end of the academic year to FIU-Center for Genomic Research faculty.

It is recommended that subheadings be used to include required information.
